Learn about me at work

Why I do what I do..

After graduating from Iowa State University, I had zero intentions of ever working in the insurance or financial world. Truly, I had no idea what I wanted to do but I knew that I wanted to help people and not sit in a cubicle. I came across the mind boggling world of insurance, benefits, and investments at my first job when I was handed a packet from HR and was told to make my decision and return by a certain date. I remember as I read through the multi-page packet thinking, “this is too much, it is so confusing, am I the only person who doesn’t understand this?” When my next career opportunity arose, it just so happened to be in the insurance realm of the world. I knew that I could make a change to what was happening through education, servicing, and truly being different for my clients. The benefits that you get through the workplace or on your own not only impact your annual budget, but it is also the thing that can save a family/individual from financial ruin in times of injury or illnesses. By helping one person understand what is being offered to them, help them make the best decision for their life at that moment, and also being there if there is a time of need, that’s how I want to help people. Knowledge is power and so many of our daily decisions are interwoven to make the big picture. My goal is to educate and service my clients to keep them from making solo decisions without having the big picture in mind.

I enjoy working with...

People who want to better themselves, their business, their employees, and their profitability. I also enjoy working with those who are open to new ideas and are willing to put in the effort to make change.

My education consists of...

Proud graduate from Iowa State University! Go Cyclones! Bachelors Degrees in Business Management, Political Science, and Criminal Justice.

Before M&M, I...

Before M&M, I worked with Aflac (still do, but in a different way) and climbed the corporate ladder at an exceptional pace. I learned many things during those years about being a leader, a team player, sales, and servicing my clients. I still choose to have these products in my portfolio because they are an excellent piece of the puzzle for group benefit offerings.

I chose M&M because...

I chose M&M as my next opportunity because it allows me to offer so much more to my clients. In the ever changing world of insurance, benefits, & wealth management, I get to help people every single day. I help them realize that their goals are achievable. Through education and service, I strive to help my clients understand their choices and to make better decisions in order to reach their goals (whatever they may be). I want to be a helping hand in my clients biggest and smallest life decisions and help guide them in areas that they don’t understand. My daily ambition is to bring more to the table than your typical advisor in order to provide diverse, new, and the best options for my clients.

The best part about my career is...

The best part of my career is the fact that my “clients” have become my friends, my family, my support system. It makes life easy to go to work every day knowing that you are working to help your team, your people, your family.

The best piece of financial advice I have received is...

The best piece of financial advice I have received is to not go to Target unsupervised. This is true but in all seriousness, I was once told by my grandfather that “if you want to be rich, don’t look rich.” As a child, I nodded and continued on with whatever task I was doing. But now that strikes a cord. We live in such a busy, materialistic, keeping up with the Jones (or Kardashians) type world that spending gets out of control. But truly the things that make you look rich, usually are what put you in debt. So track your spending, keep a budget, and stop keeping up with the Kardashians.

My life outside of work

My family includes...

My family consists of my husband, Bryan, and our two Australian Shepherd dogs, Harley & Boomer.

In my free time, you can find me...

Working on our fixer upper home in Iowa; which is quiet the experience. We love going to the lake, riding the Harley, &  visiting new breweries and wineries.

I’m passionate about...

I am a huge plant lover and spend many hours in the yard working in my vegetable garden and planting flowers. The garden is a huge aid to my other obsession, cooking! I am a huge foodie and love trying new dishes. I also have a passion for fitness. I use the gym as my personal therapy (and to balance the foodie in me). I’m passionate about living the best life and filling it with all the best people and things that make you happy.

My favorite quote is...

“Very little is needed to make a happy life. It is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.” – Marcus Aurelius

If I could meet anyone, past or present, it would be...

Queen Elizabeth. She has achieved so much in her life, overcome so many social and political barriers, and still reigns with dignity and grace.

My favorite food is...

This is a tough one! I love food. My favorite childhood food would have to be my dad’s spicy spaghetti. I hold so many family memories with this dish involved. My favorite “treat yourself” meal would have to be sushi!

My hidden talent is...

I can touch my tongue to my nose. Also, I have a niche for event planning – the type-A perfectionist loves the prep it takes and I love seeing people be happy & having fun!
